difference

there’s a quote,

“Birds born in a cage think flying is an illness.”

It was by Alejandro Jodorowsky. Not sure what the context behind that was

but it sure makes sense of a lot of things.

For a long time, we’ve seen how difference can be scary, overlooked, underestimated.

It’s why I think, people fear change.

People like to say the word “unique” as it’s something to be praised.

While laudable, it’s also said in vain,

admonished, misunderstood.

We praise difference or change when it’s predictable,

when it’s familiar,

when it fits a narrative,

when it’s not ‘too much’.

After that…

it becomes ‘dangerous’.

While I know this is true for many circumstances,

I also know how it can be an unfair, rather hasty conclusion for others.

I know this.

Nobody wants to feel like an outlander,

like difference is what castigates them instead of what underscores them.

When it is seen as a problem,

It is implied that the time has come to dissolve it,

Like its presence needs to be reversed.

When in truth, its presence is an irreversible reward,

A reward

not

everyone

appreciates,

and

not

everyone

deserves.

remember what really matters,

is what is.

Existence is real,

don’t waste it.

keep on moving,

keep on thriving,

keep on dreaming.

the only way

is the way forward.

fear not.
