Freedom

Snowboarding seems too fun not to try. Anything that exudes so much intensity and makes adrenaline feel so palpable and almost contagious is always something to add to a bucket list. I mean imagine racing up and down snow-covered slopes, moving so gracefully against the wind. It looks as though the people who perform this sport possess some superpower. However, there’s something else that I think triumphs this— skydiving. I know not many people would want to go for it because, well, it’s like ten times more intense than a roller coaster coming down from its apex, at least that’s what it looks like. But it looks too thrilling to not attempt or at least check it out!!

Before unconsciously binging those must-do adventures, I had finished the ‘How Far’ podcast by Temi Otedola and Mr. Eazi, (which was so, so good)! I was so drawn to it because it was extremely down to earth and it illustrated their personalities. This series is an example of the significance of relatability shown through many media forms. Relatability is so essential because it reminds us that we’re all humans, just dancing around the same things in different ways. There’s a latitude that comes with understanding that.

Freedom.

do we live like it’s our world and we’re just living in it - or do we merely exist?

do we live like it’s our world and we’re just living in it - or do we merely exist?

In one of January’s emails, I rhetorically asked: when do you feel most at liberty?

I guess I was pondering about choices like the guy who decided to go parachuting to get his annual dose of adrenaline (this blog isn’t just about people flying, I promise). I often hear about people giving excuses to not do things that increase their serotonin. The reasons for this are always justifiable to them but it makes me wonder what people define happiness as, and why they think it should be delayed.

The concept of freedom has been changed, radicalized, and sometimes even made to seem like one big illusion. I mean, history and current events say it all; instances include: censorship being conditioned and renamed, society and its ways of ostracizing via “cancel culture” etc. I think sometimes we feel cornered by this and obstructed to just be, or afraid to make mistakes because of possible consequences.

Truth is one of my biggest and loudest virtues. There is quite literally nothing else but truth - everything else either will never or is yet to exist. I understand that sometimes people hold back because fear and intimidation are dangerous tools that jostle with light and truth.

Bravery is freedom. There’s a short list of things that feel as gratifying as when you achieve something that you aimed for or something that you craved. When you’re gutsy enough to snowboard, skydive, or be yourself, there’s a relief that comes with it. When people talk so openly about themselves or a topic they’re passionate about, there’s a calming effect that comes with it, like How Far?

Technically, we’re free to be. If we have faith and are brave enough to be and to do, then I think we’re pretty much free.
