the past stands still.

Charlie Engman, (2019)

you can’t change history, you can only learn from it

We’ve all experienced some moments here and there that we didn’t love, time passed and some of us probably even forgot those events occurred because it’s in the past, and the past is irreversible.

Everybody and everything that exists today has a story - a history that acts as building blocks that make up who we are and our surroundings. Changing even one aspect of that story changes the entire formation of those blocks built. Think of a domino effect, the only way to start a new series is by disrupting the entire flow of the domino.

As history has no alterability, we’re left with only one choice when it comes to looking back: accepting that which has happened, and moving forward.

“If it shouldn’t have happened, it wouldn’t have.”

Do you think this assertion is true?

I think when we look back on painful situations, we ask why?

Sometimes I wonder if getting flustered about events that have already happened is worth it. It reminds me of the saying: “There’s no use crying over spilled milk” - since we cannot change the past, we can hate or love it, but the most important thing to do is acknowledge whatever happened in it and learn from it. I mean, how do we move forward without accepting what has already happened? It’s like refusing to move another chess piece because you didn’t anticipate the move your opponent made. But if undefeated by checkmate, there are still moves to play. History stands still as it remains unchanged, but there’s a future untouched, so we have to keep on.

Until the next one,
