Do you think the world is on fire?

-

Spring just came in to remind us that the Sun is not shy anymore, it’s ready to make us sweat and force us to wear sunglasses as we walk and talk and picnic. The prelude to summer is a tale of outdoors and flowers and waving winter goodbye. It’s meeting up with friends and catching up, it’s the excitement of stepping out without a jacket, it’s short sleeves, shorts, and skirts, it’s shopping, it’s painting and sipping, it’s dancing in the sun, or more accurately, by the sun.

But looking outside this spring bubble, I can’t help but notice so much else is happening as the sun comes back. A glance at the news and its heartbreak all over the place. Protests, war, division, and shock. Can anyone else feel what’s going on?

Can the world be on fire and your world be safe? Is there guilt in that? Or is it having a perspective that if you can’t do much or anything at all to stop the fire, you resort to prayer or even avoidance of what may be going on outside?

I was listening to a podcast the other day and a quote relevant to today’s post stuck out to me:

Light has intimate power over darkness.

Even when things are bad, there’s always something to smile about.

Spring reminds us that renewal, restoration, and healing is possible. After all, its whole essence is the blossoming of life in the form of nature. There were no flowers before, but now there are flowers all over the place. It’s hope that one day, things will get better, as everything has the potential to change.
