S.2, Ep. 2: What was your favorite thing that happened to you this year?

What was your favorite thing that happened to you this year?

This year was my first year not being a student and I’ve really enjoyed just embracing that. I’ve enjoyed the freedom of not being tied down by deadlines and I’ve had the opportunity to do fun, memorable things like see my favourite music artists live, and make new friends.

-Dara

Economic independence. It’s the best thing that happened to me this year!

-Sisi

Summer vacation 2024!!

-Theresa

Being able to get a wonderful job right out of college. I got hired less than a month after I graduated. My second favorite thing that happened was getting an apartment all by myself, and I’m very thankful. It all really came from that one great thing that happened, getting my job; everything else has been a trickle effect of that goodness.

-Shaheeda

Getting into Kpop! It gave me a new obsession and it has been so much fun! My best friend and I got into it, and we met a lot of people through it too.

-Tracy

My favorite thing that happened to me this year was being able to go upstate to see my grandmother, who is somebody I truly cherish in my life. Although she doesn’t realize it she always repeats the same stories to me every year when we go, but it brings me happiness hearing the joy in her voice when she shares her stories.

 -Kim

One of my favorite moments this year was the girls trip I took after starting work, it was the first time I felt like I got to take my mind off of work for a little bit, even if it was for a few days, and didn’t have to feel like I had other commitments.

-Eliana

Holiday in the South of France.

-Harrison

 I got a new car!

-Jennell

I’d been working  Monday – Sunday since I moved to America, and this year, I told myself I needed a break. I had to stop working on the weekends. Now that I stopped working weekends, I’ve been so relieved, so free. There’s been a real peace that came with that decision. I’m now able to go to church every Sunday.

-Ogbitse

Best thing that happened was I graduated and I started my accounting career on Wall Street. I also met more graff friends. (Kevin/Osa is a graffiti artist ;)

-Kevin

My favorite thing that happened to me this year was going to Ibiza!

-Debora (1)

My favorite thing that’s happened this year (so far) is my trip to Paris. It’s such a typical tourist destination but to me it opened up so many doors in my life—so many in my mind—that allowed me to imagine all the different avenues of life I could explore. It was simply eleven days but it was such a core experience that I’m sure has changed my life forever.

-Maya

I traveled to Shanghai and the Philippines with some friends!

-Grace

Moving from the West Coast to New York City. Through this experience, I started a full-time job, met many new friends, and am surrounded by different cultures.

-Cade

When my sister graduated high school, I wanted to help her get a job and I did!

-Nick

My favorite thing that happened this year was completing my internship at Bvlgari. That was a great learning experience, just getting to rotate around the company and having different mentors, and then transitioning to my current position, which is a retail specialist. This position allowed me to connect with people within the company and also learn about myself.

-Fareeda

I successfully finished my first year of college.

-Paris

I bumped into two artists in Essex market, now I work with them to elevate their brand.

-Lisbel

My favorite thing that happened to me this year was realizing that I’m capable of doing things that perhaps I’m hesitant to do due to fear. Also, my internship, there were a lot of stumbling blocks along the way, but it was eventually a success. While it was great to get professional experience, it was also great to learn more about my motivations. I learned that if you truly want something in life, you have to go out there and get it.

-Valentina

I got the two jobs I wanted this year, first as an RA and then later, a job at JPMorgan.

-Luis

I got into Columbia University!

-Hanifah

Family holiday in Marrakech, Morocco. The abundance of hours in each day afforded me the luxury of being present - it was refreshing to be in a space that held my attention and encouraged me to remain connected with my surroundings.

-Karyn

My favorite thing that happened this year was learning to truly choose myself. Choosing myself means embracing self-love, practicing patience, and giving myself the space to grow at my own pace. I’ve come to realize that it’s okay not to be exactly where my friends are; I’m living my journey, and that’s perfectly fine.
