S.2, Ep. 5: What was your lesson of the year? (pt. 2)
So, what did you learn this year?
Don’t leave anything unsaid. We only have one life, so if you feel like you need to speak on something do it & don’t let fear get in the away.
- Mystique
Be thankful for what you have, no matter what comes or if you might be envious of people. Continue to have an optimistic mindset and be kind. Kindness makes the world go round and goodness will come to you if you’re good.
- Owen
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
- Luis
The best place is not necessarily the right place.
- Eliana
Do not put your energy into people or places that do not give you back the same energy. That’s not being nice, it’s called being exploited. You deserve better than that. Your energy is precious and should only be shared in spaces where it will be reciprocated.
- Ayo
My lesson of the year was to seriously make time for rest the same way I make time for work. Otherwise burnout will come quick and strong.
- Chinonso
The quickest way to accomplish something isn’t always the best for your mind and body. Additionally, what may feel like a punishment in the moment can, in fact, be a gift that benefits you in the long run.
- Nyah
If you’re passionate about something you should pursue it.
- Cade
My lesson of the year was to tap into my unhinged self. Be crazy, who cares? If you’re emotional, you’re emotional – tap into it.
- Tracy
Trust God and live in faith. This is a two-part lesson because so many people say they trust and then do nothing. A big part of having that trust is the action behind it—the moving with confidence and certainty that you’re going to make it because of the foundation of your faith.
- Maya
(1) Saying ‘no’ to people. (2) Do what you love instead of what brings money in, because if you do what you love good enough, that’ll eventually bring money in.
- Lizbel
(1) I’ve learned that not everyone is truly your friend, even if your intentions in the relationship are pure. Not everyone you’re kind to will reciprocate, and some people will leave when times get tough. I’ve learned that I have more self-respect for myself and let go of the fake, negative friends to make room for the real, supportive people in my life, whether they are old friends or new ones to come. Don’t let people walk over you.
- Katelyn
Enjoy the moment and have fear because it keeps you alive.
- Kim
Don’t do stupid stuff.
- Martin
I learned that while aspirations and ambition are great, I think being grateful for what one has and can control shows you how life is worth it. I also learned to not allow myself to be my biggest hindrance.
– Valentina
Knowledge = Exposure. The more we learn, the more we expand our ability to interpret and engage with life, making our experiences richer and more nuanced. It applies in every area of life. Always take up an opportunity to learn! Also, life happens fast! Soak it all in.
- Victoria
My lesson of the year was to be less serious and give myself more grace.
- Hanifah
This year, my biggest lesson has been to "let go and let God." I've learned that everyone has their own struggles, so it's essential to show kindness—even to those who might not treat us well. Choosing myself and believing in my dreams have been big parts of this journey, along with realizing that not everything needs to be shared with others; sometimes, moving quietly toward your goals is best.
- Debrah
I’ve learned to be me and allow life to take its course. I’ve realized that the world is a beautiful place despite all the bad things going on – beautiful things always happen everyday.
- Joy
This year, I learned a lot about patience, and picking myself back up whenever it seemed hopeless.
- Tofunmi
Remember to enjoy the little things in life as life will pass you by if you allow it to. Sometimes, you have to slow down and appreciate those around you and the memories you’ve made.
- Michelle
My lesson of the year was to embrace putting effort and giving time to the relationships you value. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed from reaching out, doing activities together, or literally just being there, but when you push through, the feeling of joy, community, and the memories really do make it worth it.
- Tolu
Even if you think it’s over, it’s not over - there’s another chance / alternative ending to your story. Your story doesn’t end just because it feels like it’s ending.
