S.2, Ep. 6: it’s good to have memories
Welcome to the last blog of the year! To start this off, I want to say thank you to everyone for reading the blog this year, as well as those who participated in this December series. This year’s edition was in some ways more challenging than the last one, but I’m thankful to everyone who encouraged the series and motivated me to keep this up. It’s New Year’s Eve already - this month, this year went by super fast, it’s unbelievable.
I.) Memories and travelling
As you’re planning for 2025, hopefully everyone’s travel destinations mentioned in Ep. 2 “favorite thing that happened this year” animated your travel bucket list at least a little bit. I honestly wasn’t ready for that many travel responses for that episode and only really noticed it when I was digitally curating everyone’s answers and putting it on the blog. It made me remember how much of a privilege it is to travel. The world is so big that seeing multiple parts of it truly is a gift, because not everyone gets to do that. Travel means rest, so why not rest thousands of miles away from what you need rest from?
We started off this year’s December series in Disneyworld, Florida (Ep. 1), and now we’re wrapping up in Lagos, Nigeria. Here’s a brief overview of what it was like:
This trip featured so much art (and food) which, if you’ve been following the blog for some time now, isn’t the biggest surprise. It was another calm “Detty December” with a little dose of just about everything I enjoy doing in Lagos. Nigeria is inundated with so much talent, it’s the most incredible thing. I did a “Things to do in Lagos” blog earlier this year; if you want recommendations, it’s all in there. I’ll do an updated list in a future post but here are 4 notable ones from this trip:

II.) Memories and lessons learned
Lesson of the year (pt. 1), (pt. 2) has been my favorite part of the series because so much of it is relatable, and it encourages everyone to reflect on how life was like in the current year and make important adjustments in the following year. It also give a unique way of describing how everyone’s years’ went without going into too much detail. Think of it as “memories made and lessons learned”. The Christmas episode was a risky one because a lot of people have pretty much the exact same idea of what Christmas means to them - knowing this, I felt it was an opportunity to acknowledge and see that there are some people who don’t relate to the typical joyous or religious sentiments about Christmas, as well as the fact that there are many people who do (Ep. 4). I think that really is the whole point of the December series, other than to keep everyone hyped about the end of the year, it’s also to show that you’re not alone in what you experience. The December series is always a great memory. Thank you all for making it so!

I hope you have a beautiful 2025 filled with peace, joy, and precious moments.
